Heads Up, Eyes Forward! (HUEF) campaign continues to reach out to students and the community through Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, as well as with new posters throughout its schools, to help spread the message of safe driving. The dedicated YouTube page features videos created for the campaign, including PSAs, news packages, and this year’s music video - “Drivin’ Like You Care.” As another video shows, the team visited Larchmont Elementary and helped second grade students create safe driving gifts that included a HUEF car magnet, to remind their parents to always drive safely. The campaign also distributed HUEF car magnets at a district-wide Safe Driving Event in October. The event featured a Share the Keys presentation and safe-driving advocate Jacey Good. HUEF also to distributed magnets to students during lunch periods. Students who displayed the magnets on their vehicle were entered to win the use of a HUEF preferred parking spot for a month. HUEF again partnered with Lenape District senior Alyssa Lesher and her Stay Alive Just Drive! Campaign. In 2012, Alyssa was hit head-on while on a behind-the-wheel driving lesson. Due to her serious injuries, Alyssa was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital where she spent 11 days in the Trauma ICU with major internal injuries requiring life-saving surgery. Both campaigns collaborated to design and sell new 2014 edition t-shirts to once again raise money for the Cooper Trauma ICU. The shirts were worn throughout the community and the four Lenape District High Schools on Friday, March 15th. The HUEF team developed a documentary detailing the events leading up to, and following, Alyssa’s accident. HUEF again worked with NJDOT to display its message on the state’s digital highway signs in April, during Distracted Driving Awareness month.
